The Metepenagiag First Nation Land Claim Trust was established as part of the March 21, 2013 land claim settlement agreement between the Metepenagiag Mi’kmaq Nation and Canada, associated with litigation No. T-1542-87 in the Federal Court of Canada. This settlement, which included the terms of establishing a community trust, was ratified by community members through a referendum held on October 17th, 2013.
The Trust was established on October 15, 2014, with the signing of a governing trust agreement by the Original Trustees, and the transfer of Trust-designated funds to banking institution Trust accounts. These accounts are entirely independent from those of the Metepenagiag Mi’kmaq Nation, and are managed by an independent Board of Trustees.
This page was established and is maintained by the Board of Trustees. It is intended to provide members of the Metepenagiag Mi’kmaq Nation with information and resources related to the Trust.
